12/27/2012 - Softball Factory Christmas Camp & Tournament - Texas Jensen is a hard working player, eager to learn, apply and improve on the various skills associated with the game. Although she had little to no instruction/experience prior to the event as a catcher, Jensen made huge strides over the course of the event. She took well to the individual practice and was able to make the recommended adjustments in regards to an athletic set-up, staying low with her throws to second and maintaining a strong wrist when receiving/framing. Continued focus on the fundamentals of catching (glove positioning, blocking, angles, agility and instincts) and implementing a throwing regiment (that eliminates her double pump) will enhance her developing skill set. As a third baseman, Jensen is a developing player. She demonstrates playable range and proper reads off the bat. Focus on a pre-pitch set-up, working down and through plays and understanding proper approaches/routes to various ground balls, will enhance her efficiency, agility and improve her positioning, transfers and feeds. In the box, Jensen has an athletic set-up, quick hands and a short bat path that results in hard contact. For increased power and success as a hitter, she will need to focus on a smooth stride and load (get the front foot down before hands go), explosive lower half and following through once contact is made. It is recommended that Jensen seek out additional private instruction to work on the above mentioned areas. As a whole, she will continue to mature and develop through hard work, application and experience.
10/14/2012 - College PREP - Oklahoma City, OK Jensen is strong framed C/3B. As a C, she has soft hands and provides a good target. She will need to stay lower to throw, quicken her release and eliminate some steps to throw to be a more effective defensive option behind the plate. She will benefit from continuing to work on her "drop and block" technique to advance her ability to handle balls in the dirt, and has the athletic ability to make the necessary adjustments. As a 3B, she keeps the ball in front and has a coachable approach to the position. She needs to improve her glove position out front and get it there early without flipping it into position. She reads the ball well off the bat and needs to obtain as many reps as she can to improve comfort and feel. At the plate, Jensen uses a square set up with a back load, a short stride and hits the ball hard with quick bat speed and solid barrel accuracy. She definitely has pop when centered and will benefit from improving her balance in her lower half, getting front foot down on time and allowing her upper and lower body to work together to access the benefits of her strength. Overall, Jensen's offensive skill set is ahead of her defensive set, however with the proper coaching and hard work, she is athletic enough to develop quickly as stated above.
