OVERALL Position Projection:
12/27/2012 - Softball Factory Christmas Camp & Tournament - Texas Kyla is a developing player. Behind the plate she demonstrates: an eagerness to understand the position; a strong wrist/framing skills; and an ability to control the game with her demeanor and communication. Kyla took well to the instruction and made improvements with her blocking abilities (i.e., glove positioning, chin tucked, body control and deadening the ball) and understanding of implementing drills into game action. Continued focus on an athletic set-up, smooth/fluid footwork and fundamental drills will enhance Kyla's growing skill set. In the box, Kyla displays a balanced swing, decent eye/hand coordination and flashes of pop. For enhanced consistency and success as a hitter, Kyla will benefit from a strong, athletic pre-pitch, a smooth/rhythmic stride and load, explosive hips and staying inside the ball via a short to contact, long follow through swing. Early in the event, Kyla was injured due to a pre-existing condition making it difficult to monitor her progress/application during game play. Overall, Kyla will continue to develop through application and experience.
10/14/2012 - College PREP - Oklahoma City, OK Kyla is a young C with a projectable skill set behind the plate. She has soft, sure hands and uses them to receive the ball firmly out front. She is active to block and shows advanced body control on her kick back, allowing her to get around balls and keep them close to home plate. She is aggressive and will benefit from improving her arm strength through the use of a throwing program, as well as continue to work on improving foot speed and footwork to throw. She should focus on staying low and taking short quick steps in line with her target, then using her feet to follow through, improving carry and flight. At the plate, Kyla uses a square set up in a crouched position, no stride and keeps her balance centered before launching her short swing to the ball. She has quick hands, hits the ball hard to the pull side and will enjoy more opposite field/gap to gap success if she sees the ball deeper into the zone, and stays heavier on her back foot than her front. Overall, Kyla is a player to keep an eye on as she grows, and with hard work, could give herself the opportunity to play college softball.
