06/24/2013 - Softball Factory World Series Makenzie continues to develop athletically with maturity. Her eagerness to learn and make adjustments will help her as she refines her skill set. As a SS, she has a strong, accurate arm, confident glovework, fluid footwork, an athletic fielding position, decent range, and accurate double play feeds and pivots. Continuing to focus on developing the skill set will increase fielding success. As an OF, her athletic positioning helps her gain ground and get to her powerline as she makes low, accurate throws to homeplate. Continuing to focus on reads/routes off the bat will increase range and efficiency. As a hitter, her basic fundamentals allow for her to make contact. Continuing to focus on a stride and load, driving the hands through the hitting zone, utilizing the lower half, and timing will increase power and efficiency. Implementing a strength and conditioning program will increase speed, agility, power, body awareness, and coordination. As Makenzie continues to develop and mature through application and experience, she will be on track for seeking collegiate attention.
04/21/2013 - College PREP - Tacoma (Seattle), WA Makenzie is an extremely well balanced player with an advanced skill set for her age. As a SS, she is a sure handed defender whom already understands what it means to play from the ground up. She keeps her feet active pre-pitch, plays with a lot of energy and is willing to leave her feet to make the big play. She will benefit from speeding up her transfer without sacrificing control, quickening her foot speed which is part hard work and part maturity and keeping her hips low when she goes side to side. As an OF, she gets similar results with her high energy, solid routes to the ball and vocal approach. She is a little tall in her approach to balls on the ground and should continue to work on her power step while staying in line to her target. At the plate, Makenzie uses a square set up with no load or stride, keeps her balance centered and is slightly uphill to contact. She makes solid contact, flashes pop and has a steady line drive path through the zone. To further develop, she will want to improve her balance in her launch phase as she tends to get to her heels, which cuts off the potential for extension. She has good feel at the plate and possesses the potential to be a complete hitter while playing defense at a very high level. Makenzie is certainly a player to follow and should continue to seek ways to get better while playing against the best players possible.
