12/20/2017 - Softball Factory Christmas Camp & Tournament - Session 1 Maria returns to Softball Factory for her 3rd event. During game play Maria saw time behind the plate and at 1B. Behind the plate, Maria is a vocal player that works to lead her defense. She makes a clean exchange and with a smooth arm action she makes accurate throws. Working to gain ground to her target will allow her to gain momentum and see a drop in her pop time. At 1B, Maria is a physical player that is willing to get dirty to keep the ball in front. She fields with sure hands and makes accurate throws with carry. Working to read the ball before striding will allow her to use the bag to her advantage for tough outs/picks. In the box, Maria is a RHH that shows power potential. She has a simple approach and has a good barrel. Being aggressive and hoping on good pitches early will allow her to see more success. Overall, Maria is a hard-working player and with continued coaching she will have the opportunity to take her game to the next level.
06/19/2017 - Softball Factory World Series Maria returns to Softball Factory to show she is ready to take her game to the next level. Since her last outing Maria has made improvements to her run times and hitting grades. In the box Maria showed power production to the gaps as she did a nice job of staying inside the ball and barreling up. She makes hard contact and works the pull side. Working on pitch recognition will allow her to leave balls out of the zone alone. Behind the plate she a strong presence and holds her ground with close plays at home. She works hard for her pitcher and does a nice job of sticking balls on the corners. Working to communicate every play will allow her to be the leader of her defense. Overall Maria is a hard working player with the tools needed to play at the collegiate level.
02/12/2017 - College PREP - Corpus Christi, TX Maria is a 2020 catcher with a developing skill set. Behind the plate, Maria has effective footwork and frames the ball well on the corners. She has vocal leadership on the field and uses her legs well to drive towards her target on throw downs. Maria has short arm action that helps with a quick, accurate release to her target. Offensively, Maria is athletic in her setup and takes an on-time stride to contact. She stays smooth with her rhythm/timing in the box and stays balanced throughout her swing. Maria hits with a firm front side and stays inside the ball well. She has a calm presence and works up the middle of the field well. By engaging more of her lower half, Maria will gain even more strength and power at contact. Overall, Maria is a young athlete that will only continue to get better and work on what is needed to take her game to the highest level.
