07/25/2014 - College PREP - Severn (Baltimore), MD Mary Blake is continuing to develop her skill set as a switch hitter and third base / outfielder. On the infield, Mary Blake is a consistent fielder with smooth footwork. She has above average range and will benefit from playing through the ball. Mary Blake does a good job of making accurate throws across the diamond. As a third baseman, Mary Blake will benefit from adding some pre pitch movement to her setup and staying lower to the ground. This will help her overall reaction time and range on the hot corner. In the outfield, Mary Blake receives the ball with soft and sure hands. She understands how to approach each ball that is hit to her. She gets behind a pop up and gets around a ball to her left or right. By working to get her hips in line with home to make the throw, she will have a more accurate throw. Offensively, Mary Blake hits for power from both sides of the plate. She uses a square setup, backwards load, and centered stride to make a positive move to the ball. Mary Blake is a whole hitter that maintains centered balance while driving through contact. She is a consistent hitter that hits the ball hard. On the left side, Mary Blake will benefit from increasing her load and weight transfer through the ball. Also, by widening her stance a little, Mary Blake will be able to generate more power throughout her lower half. Overall, Mary Blake is a well-balanced player that continues to work hard and develop as a player.
12/27/2013 - Softball Factory Christmas Camp & Tournament Mary Blake is a determined outfielder with a well-balanced skill set. In the outfield, Mary Blake has clean hands combined with efficient footwork. She also takes good angles to the ball and has playable range. By working on getting behind the ball and being more aggressive in the outfield, Mary Blake will become a well-rounded athlete. Offensively, she uses a closed setup and a short bat path to make solid contact to all sides of the field. In game play, Mary Blake has very good at bats. She is patient at the plate and makes firm contact. By working on her extension, Mary Blake can become a more consistent hitter. Overall, Mary Blake works hard and will continue to develop into a well-rounded player.
07/09/2013 - Advanced Training and Competition at the World Cup Mary Blake continues to develop as an athlete. Her willingness to learn and to make adjustments sets a tone on the field. As an OF, she has a basic understanding of the position and showed improvement on routes to flyballs. Continuing to focus fluid footwork, quicker reactions, one-hand extensions, getting to the powerline, and basic fundamentals will increase efficiency. As a hitter, she has a balanced setup with a short bat path that produces line drives. Continuing to focus on a stride and load, finishing the swing after contact, and utilizing the lower half will generate power and efficiency. Implementing a strength and conditioning program will increase speed, agility, power, body awareness, and coordination. As MaryBlake continues to develop and mature through application and experience, she will be on track for seeking collegiate attention.
03/10/2013 - College PREP - Bel Air (Baltimore), MD Mary Blake is a switch hitting 2 way player with a developing skill set. As a RHP, she has an understanding of the position and has some feel for changing speeds while pitching to contact but needs to use her lower half more aggressively to further develop. She changes speeds well and should continue to work on commanding her secondary pitches to be more effective as a strike thrower. As an OF, she is an accurate thrower, uses her long hops/cut off men well and communicates very well while taking charge. She will benefit from keeping her feet active pre-pitch, anticipating action off the bat and playing through the ball aggressively with an aggressive power step/crow hop to throw. At the plate, Mary Blake uses a square set up with a short stride, centered balance and makes consistent contact from both sides of the plate. She is further ahead from the right side at this point where she is smooth, stays inside the ball and has solid strike zone discipline. From the left side she has a lot of raw ability but needs to commit to a detailed drill package with a lot of quality reps to further develop. Overall, Mary Blake has a lot of potential and needs to continue playing as much as possible to gain experience and become more comfortable from both sides of the plate.
