01/14/2022 - 2022 Softball Factory Pre-Season All-America Tournament Maya is a 2025 Catcher who attended the Softball Factory Pre-Season All America Tournament! Catching wise, she has a good athletic setup behind the plate, keeps the ball in front well on blocks, gets over the top on her throws, and makes accurate throws. Hitting wise, she is balanced, makes hard consistent contact, is powerful, and drives her lower half well. Overall, Maya is a talented athlete and someone that our coaching staff always enjoys working with!
06/03/2021 - Softball Factory College World Series - Prospects Select Training Maya is a strong 2025 C that attended the College World Series Select Training Event! Behind the plate, she does a great job of framing the ball, and keeping balls in front on her blocks. She has good carry on the ball, and makes accurate throws. Something for her to work on is a quicker exchange and release. Also, if she can work on being quicker behind the plate on bunts, she will be even more successful. Hitting wise, she has a good setup in the box and makes solid hard contact. She has quick bat speed and is a line drive hitter. Something for her to work on is driving her lower half more and using her legs and hips for more power. Also, if she can work on tracking the ball deeper into the zone, she will be more successful. Maya was great to work with and someone our coaching staff would love to work with in the future!
01/15/2021 - 2021 Softball Factory Rookie Pre-Season All-America Tournament Maya is an athletic C prospect who showed well during the Rookie Pre-Season All-America Tournament. Behind the plate, Maya sits in an athletic stance and receives with soft hands. Her exchange is clean and she gets rid of the ball quickly, making accurate throws with carry through the 2B bag. She is smooth moving to block and centers the ball in the middle of her body. At the plate, this LHH shows an advanced approach through an athletic setup. She works through a level swing with fast bat speed, leading to loud contact and great pull side power. Overall, Maya is a talented prospect who will be one to follow as she continues to progress.
05/23/2020 - Official College Recruiting Membership - Columbia, SC Maya is a talented catcher who can make things happen on the diamond. Behind the dish, she sits in well with flexion and quiet actions. She tracks pitches into a soft mitt, sticks the ball and frames well. She is quick laterally and centers/deadens pitches in the dirt off of her chest. Throws to 2B are accurate coming from a quick transfer with pop times of 2.21. At the plate, this LHH displays a balanced/open setup with fluid rhythm to load. Swing is quick to and through the zone as she connects and has pop to her pull-side. Working to engage her full lower 1/2 will help to tap into even more power potential. Only a 2025 grad - Maya is a skilled catching prospect who has a very bright future ahead of her in the game.
01/17/2020 - 2020 Softball Factory All-America Pre-Season Rookie Tournament Maya Van Zyl is a 2025 left-handed first baseman with a developing skill set. Defensively, she moves well from the balls of her feet and fields in an athletic position. She has a great attitude and is a vocal leader on the field. She fields the ball out in front and has an accurate throw to her target. Offensively, she has a tall setup and stride to the ball. Her rhythm is fluid and her movements controlled. Her barrel is on plane through the zone and a great extension through the ball. She hits the ball hard consistently and shows power to all fields. Overall, Maya is an athlete who is coachable, has a good attitude and works hard.
11/24/2019 - Interactive Video Program - Savannah, GA Maya Van Zyl is a 2025 left-handed catcher and first baseman with a strong skill set. Behind the plate, she is explosive when blocking and has a quick and clean exchange. At first base, she sees the ball into her glove well and has active footwork towards the ball. Offensively, Maya hits the ball well to her pull side. Overall, Maya continues to work hard on growing her skill set even further.
