09/08/2013 - College PREP - Boston, MA Rachel is a versatile young C/2B with a well-balanced skill set. Behind the plate, she is a sure handed receiver with fluid footwork and an advanced ability to stick the low pitch. She gains ground to throw, has good instincts and shows a good feel for blocking with body control. She will benefit from continuing to work on shortening her release when throwing to 2nd. As a 2B, Rachel's skill set plays very similar. She shows confidence when going to her backhand side and is pretty good on both sides of the double play. She makes accurate throws from a couple different arm slots and should continue to work on keeping her feet active in her prep step, having earlier glove position and improving her 1st step off the bat to increase range. At the plate, Rachel uses a crouched set up with no load or stride and keeps her balance centered before launching her hands through the zone. A solid contact hitter, Rachel will enjoy more power as she incorporates her lower half more aggressively/consistently while continuing to work on keeping her hands through contact to get better extension. Overall, Rachel has potential and carries herself very well on the field which allows her to operate in a comfortable setting and get the most out of her abilities.
06/24/2013 - Softball Factory World Series Rachel continues to develop as an athlete. Her leadership qualities, eagerness to learn, and communication skills set a tone on the field. As a C, she commands the field, has confident glovework, active footwork, and good blocking skills. Continuing to focus on an athletic, balanced set up, arm strength/slot, gaining ground when blocking, and quick transfers will increase position awareness, efficiency, and fielding success. As a 3B, she has an athletic fielding position, active footwork, and quick pivots. Continuing to focus on arm strength/slot, confident glovework, and double play feeds, and anticipating the next play will increase position awareness, range, and efficiency. As a hitter, she has a short bat path, fluid rhythm, quick hands inside the ball, and produces consistent contact. Continuing to focus on a stride and load, an explosive lower half, and keeping the front side closed will increase power and efficiency. Implementing a strength and conditioning program will increase speed, agility, power, body awareness, and coordination. As Rachel continues to develop and mature through application and experience, she will be on track for seeking collegiate attention.
