11/17/2021 - 2021 Softball Factory Fall Classic - 16U Sophia is a 2024 graduate who pitches and plays outfield. She makes adjustments and has a strong softball IQ. She is aggressive in the box. On the mound, Sophia has a good changeup and keeps hitters off balance. Improving her mound presence and body language as well as her consistency will improve her effectiveness on the rubber. Working on baserunning and extension will help Sophia take her game to the next level. Overall, she has the ability to continue improving her skills on the diamond.
08/24/2021 - All-In Membership - Redmond, WA Sophia is a very talented 2024 RHP/OF, who attended the Softball Factory Event in Redmond, WA! Pitching wise, Sophia throws a changeup, curveball, and drop ball. She throws consistent strikes, and has a smooth windup and motion. She has sharp late break, and spins her pitches well. In the outfield, Sophia does a great job of taking a quick first step, fielding the ball out in front, and making accurate throws. She does a great job of one hopping the catcher home, and is aggressive to the ball. If she can work on taking better angles to the ball, she will be even stronger in the outfield. Hitting wise, she has a good setup in the box, is aggressive at the plate, and is a line drive hitter. Something for her to work on is staying back and not getting on her front foot, as well as working on a better weight transfer. Overall, Sophia is a very talented player and someone our coaches always enjoy working with!
01/15/2021 - 2021 Softball Factory Pre-Season All-America Tournament Sophia continues to show as a prospect on the field. On the mound, she shows a repeatable delivery, allowing her arm action to work loose to the plate. She has good stride length and throws with an intent. Fastball showed a range of 50-51 mph. Curveball sits 50-51 mph with tight spin. Rise ball sits 50-51 mph. Changeup sits 42-43 mph. At the plate, she continues to shine through a squared setup. Hands are quick (67 mph exit velocity) and work through an aggressive swing path. She stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Mental makeup is a plus as she is very coachable, works hard to be the best player she can be, and is a team player.
07/26/2020 - All-In Membership - Aberdeen (Seattle), WA Sophia is a talented RHP who will challenge hitters every time that she steps onto the mound. Mechanics are sound as she repeats her delivery well. Arm is quick as she drives off of the mound, staying directional toward the dish. FB cracks the mitt at 53 mph while showing good movement. Curveball has sharp/late break as she controls it well. Changeup has good drop and will be a solid swing and miss pitch. She commands the zone and throws strikes with all of her pitches. As a hitter, this righty stands in well with centered balance and fluid rhythm to load. She swing with + bat speed, barrels the ball up and drives it from gap-to-gap. Wood is a skilled pitching prospect who has a very bright future ahead of her in the game.
01/17/2020 - 2020 Softball Factory All-America Pre-Season Rookie Tournament Sophia Wood is a 2024 right-handed utility player with a developed skill set. Sophia was able to showcase her skills in many areas and has a clear passion for the game. In the outfield, she is a vocal leader and has great communication with other athletes on the field during each play. Although her primary position is a RHP, she was a true team player and made plays in the outfield for us. In the circle, she has a confident presence and consistent approach to each batter. She has the ability to hold runners and has an aggressive mindset to get ahead in the count early. Offensively, she has a square setup and soft stride to the ball. Her barrel stays on-plane through the zone and she makes hard contact consistently.
