06/26/2012 - Advanced Training and Competition at the World Cup Monica did a great job with some of the adjustments we talked about in April. On the mound, she has a great arm swing and presence and gives her teammates a real chance to win when she has the ball. To further develop, she will need to continue to work on staying hip to hip with her curve, create more rotation and drive shoulder lower on the Drop, be aggressive when closing hips and keep throwing that impressive change up because that is her best pitch at this time. At the plate, Monica has done a good job with seeing the ball deeper in the zone and has seen an increase in power numbers and overall effectiveness. She has become more athletic in her set up and is hitting hard line drives while displaying smoother rhythm and balance. Overall, she has proven to be coachable and able to make adjustments, two key components of a college softball player.
04/29/2012 - College PREP - Lebanon (Nashville), TN Monica is an athletic strike thrower who can also play 2B. On the mound, Monica features a full arm swing with good hand position and an athletic stance. She has smooth rhythm, square shoulders and stays on the power line with a complete finish. As an infielder, Monica moves well side to side and has sure hands with a quick exchange. To further develop, she will need to focus on playing lower, improving accuracy and softening her hands. At the plate, she uses a closed set-up, no load and a short stride to make hard contact to all fields. To increase power potential, Monica needs to work on staying back and seeing the ball deeper in the zone as well as shorten her swing. Overall, Monica has the type of skill set that if developed correctly, can play at the next level.
