02/07/2021 - Official College Recruiting Membership - Frisco (DFW), TX Samantha is 2021 SS/RHP out of Justin, TX. At the plate is where she shows best through a crouched setup. Hands are quick (64 mph exit velocity) and work through an aggressive swing path. She stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields with gap to gap pop. At 1B, she displays proper footwork around the bag and is a quality receiver. Glove action is clean but needs to present more out front. Range will increase as she improves foot quickness. Throws are accurate with carry to her target but will benefit by building more arm strength through a long toss program. On the mound, she shows a repeatable delivery, allowing her arm action to work loose to the plate. She has good stride length and throws with an intent. Fastball showed a range of 42-43 mph. Changeup sits 33-35 mph with sink. Screwball sits 39-41 mph. Curveball sits 39-41 mph with tight spin. We look forward to seeing what the future holds for Samantha.
12/01/2019 - College PREP - Highland Park (DFW), TX Samantha James is a 2021 RHP and first baseman with a developing skill set. In the infield, Samantha has an aggressive mindset and makes plays consistently. She has a good glove angle when fielding the ball and exchanges the ball quickly and cleanly. Her throw is accurate and she shows strength in her release over the top. In the circle, Samantha has a calm and confidence presence. She extends through well on her release and has an open hip direction. She drives hard with her lower half and utilizes many pitches to keep batters on their toes. She has good body control and a full arm circle. Offensively, she has a square setup and on-time stride in her pre-pitch approach. She loads well into her lower half and her balance is centered. She makes hard contact with each pitch and has the ability to get her barrel on plane. She shows power to her pull side and will increase her overall power production with the development of an extension.
